Optokytkin-portinohjain BROADCOM HCPL-3180-000E DIP-8 Push-Pull Totem-Pole AC/DC

BROADCOM HCPL-3180-000E is an optocoupler gate driver in a DIP-8 package that provides galvanic isolation between control and power stages. The device features a push-pull (totem-pole) output stage and is intended to drive gate inputs of power switching devices in both AC and DC systems. Typical applications include isolated gate drive for IGBTs, MOSFETs and other power switches used in inverters, motor drives and power supplies where reliable switching performance and electrical isolation are required.

Advantages

The optocoupler gate driver combines high-voltage isolation with a push-pull output, enabling low-side and high-side gate control without direct electrical connection between control and power circuits. Its DIP-8 package simplifies through-hole mounting and prototyping, while the totem-pole output provides faster transition times and defined logic levels suitable for driving a variety of gate capacitances. The device reduces noise coupling into sensitive control electronics by maintaining galvanic isolation between input and output.

Suitable for

• Isolated gate drive for IGBT and MOSFET power stages
• Inverters and motor drive control circuits
• AC and DC power conversion systems
• Switch-mode power supplies and isolated control interfaces

Key specifications

• Package type: DIP-8 through-hole
• Output stage: push-pull (totem-pole)
• Isolation: galvanic isolation between input and output
• Function: optically isolated gate driver for power transistors
• Signal type: digital input to drive gate terminals of power switches

How to use

Place the device on a PCB with standard DIP-8 footprint or use a compatible socket for prototyping. Provide the input LED with the appropriate forward current via a current-limiting resistor from the control logic source, observing the device input polarity. Connect the output pins to the gate driver traces and provide the required power rails for the gate drive circuit. Maintain recommended creepage and clearance distances on the PCB to preserve isolation and follow the power transistor datasheet guidelines for gate resistor and snubber use. Observe manufacturer-recommended supply voltages and input currents to ensure reliable switching and device longevity.

Recommendations

For best results, use proper PCB layout techniques to minimize stray inductance and capacitance on gate and power traces, place decoupling capacitors close to the driver supply pins, and add appropriate gate resistors to control switching speed and limit di/dt. Verify isolation requirements for your system and test switching performance under expected load and temperature conditions.
