DEUTER Freerider 22 SL reppu — 22 L, 950 g, skitouring, Bordeaux

DEUTER Freerider 22 SL is a 22‑liter ski touring backpack in Bordeaux designed for alpine and ski touring use. With compact external dimensions of approximately 510 × 320 × 160 mm and a lightweight construction of 950 g, the pack provides space for essential clothing, safety equipment and small ski accessories. The pack closes with a zipper, features integrated carrying handles for easy handling and includes an SOS label for emergency information.

Advantages

The Freerider 22 SL combines a modest 22 L volume with an ergonomic shoulder system tailored to the SL fit, ensuring a close and stable carry on ascents and descents. Its lightweight design reduces fatigue on day trips while compact dimensions keep bulk to a minimum. Zippered access provides quick retrieval of gear and the carrying handles simplify short transfers when the pack is not worn. The integrated SOS label allows immediate access to emergency information.

Suitable for

When it may not be suitable

The 22‑liter volume limits how much clothing and gear you can carry, so it may not suit multi-day tours or trips requiring large amounts of technical equipment. Heavier loads will reduce the benefit of the SL‑optimized fit and lightweight construction.

How to use

Pack heavier items close to your back and distribute weight evenly to maintain balance on steep slopes. Use the main zippered compartment for clothing layers, food and navigation tools, and reserve outer pockets for quick‑access items. Adjust shoulder straps and hip area to achieve a snug, stable fit that matches the SL geometry so the pack rides close to the body while skiing or traversing. Use the carrying handles for short transfers or when stowing the pack in a vehicle or locker.

What to consider before purchase

Recommendations

For ski touring days, carry essential safety equipment such as an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel alongside personal layers and hydration. Check that the pack is adjusted correctly before each ascent to ensure comfort and stability, and keep the SOS label visible with up‑to‑date emergency information.
