Hallittava kytkin Extreme Networks 5420F-48P-4XE L2/L3 Gigabit Ethernet PoE

The Extreme Networks 5420F-48P-4XE is a managed L2/L3 edge switch with 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports and integrated PoE support. As part of the 5420 Series universal edge switch platform, this model provides flexible deployment options for wiring closets and access-layer use, offering multi-rate 1/2.5/1 Gigabit models across the series, built-in uplink ports, and support for advanced Ethernet fabric services and MACsec link encryption (on supported hardware revisions).

Advantages

The 5420F-48P-4XE delivers a high-performance, feature-rich design with user-selectable OS persona (Switch Engine or Fabric Engine) and support for both Fabric Connect and IP Fabric depending on the chosen persona. It includes IEEE 802.3bt PoE (30/60/90W) on supported ports, AVB support when running Switch Engine for real-time multimedia, MACsec link encryption for secure hop-by-hop links, and high-speed stacking when operating with Switch Engine. The unit also supports zero-touch provisioning and cloud-based management via ExtremeCloud IQ with a one-year Pilot subscription included.

Suitable for

• Access-layer deployments in enterprise wiring closets
• PoE power for wireless access points, IP cameras, digital signage and point-of-sale terminals
• Networks requiring MACsec link encryption between switches or devices
• Environments using Ethernet fabric technologies or centralized cloud management

How to use

Install the 5420F-48P-4XE in a standard equipment rack and connect access devices to the Gigabit Ethernet ports. Choose the desired OS persona at first boot or pre-provision the persona in ExtremeCloud IQ so the switch automatically downloads and enables the selected persona. Use ExtremeCloud IQ for zero-touch provisioning, centralized policy, firmware updates and monitoring, or manage the unit locally via the web-based GUI or CLI. For PoE devices, enable PoE per port as required and verify power budgets and PoE modes (perpetual/fast PoE) to match connected devices.

Recommendations

For secure link-level encryption and advanced fabric features, confirm hardware revision compatibility for MACsec and enable the appropriate persona (Switch Engine for AVB and high-speed stacking, Fabric Engine for Fabric Connect services). Monitor PoE power budgeting when connecting multiple high-power devices and use ExtremeCloud IQ for simplified provisioning and lifecycle management.
