INTER-TECH ST-7227U is a standalone HDD dock designed for convenient, tool-free access to 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives and SSDs. The dock connects to a host system via USB 3.0 and includes both Type-C and Type-A connectors for broad compatibility with modern laptops and desktop computers. It provides quick plug-and-play access for data transfer, backup, cloning, or recovery without installing drives into a PC.

Advantages

The dock supports both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives, allowing use with laptops and desktop drives without additional adapters. Dual USB interfaces (Type-C and Type-A) ensure compatibility with a wide range of computers and enable USB 3.0 transfer speeds. Tool-free insertion and a compact, freestanding design simplify handling and storage of drives. The standalone operation allows rapid access to drive contents for technicians and home users alike.

Suitable for

• Data transfer between SATA drives and computers
• Creating backups and cloning drives
• Recovering data from removed or old drives
• Temporary testing, diagnostics, and benchmarking of drives

Key specifications

• Compatible drive types: 2.5" and 3.5" SATA HDD and SATA SSD
• Interface to host: USB 3.0 with Type-C and Type-A connectors
• Power: external power required for 3.5" drives (AC adapter included or required)
• Operation mode: plug-and-play, no internal installation needed
• Form factor: freestanding desktop dock supporting single drive insertion

How to use

Insert a compatible 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drive into the dock's slot, ensuring the SATA connector aligns with the dock's socket. Connect the dock to a computer using either the USB Type-C or Type-A cable provided, and connect external power if required for 3.5" drives. The host system should recognize the drive automatically; use the operating system's file manager or disk utilities to access, copy, clone, or diagnose the drive. Safely eject the drive from the operating system before removing it from the dock.

Recommendations

Use the USB Type-C connection where available to take advantage of optimal cable orientation and compatibility with modern systems. For extended benchmarking or heavy transfers, ensure the dock is connected to a USB 3.0 port for maximum throughput and connect the supplied external power when handling 3.5" drives. Always perform a safe-eject procedure in the operating system before removing a drive to prevent data corruption.
