3M sanding sponge 68×100×26 mm with a fine abrasive surface and soft backing is designed for manual sanding of contoured and flat surfaces. The compact rectangular block conforms to shapes and provides consistent contact across curves and edges, enabling controlled material removal and a smooth finish on wood, painted surfaces, primers and light surface preparation tasks. The soft backing helps reduce gouging while allowing the abrasive face to follow surface profiles during finishing and blending operations.

Advantages

The fine abrasive grit delivers even abrasion for finishing and feathering without aggressive stock removal. The soft, flexible backing ensures good conformity to curved and irregular shapes, improving contact and reducing the need for repeated passes. Its compact size gives precise hand control and access to tight areas, corners and edges. The sponge construction resists clogging and sheds sanding dust more effectively than rigid sandpaper, which helps maintain cutting performance during light sanding tasks.

Suitable for

• Sanding and finishing wood surfaces
• Feathering and smoothing paint and primer
• Preparing surfaces for repainting or clearcoat
• Detail work on curved or contoured parts
• Light removal of surface imperfections and smoothing fillers

Key specifications

• Dimensions: 68 × 100 × 26 mm
• Abrasive grade: fine
• Backing: soft, flexible sponge
• Form factor: rectangular sanding block
• Intended use: manual sanding of contoured and flat surfaces

How to use

Use the sanding sponge by holding it in the palm and applying light, even pressure while moving along the surface with the grain on wood or in smooth, overlapping strokes on painted surfaces. For curved areas and edges, let the soft backing conform to the profile and maintain steady contact to avoid creating low spots. Replace the sponge when the abrasive surface is worn or clogged; for best results, check the finish frequently and progress from the fine grit to a finer polishing step if required.

Recommendations

Wear appropriate dust protection and work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid excessive pressure to prevent over-sanding. For painted or coated surfaces, test on a small area first to confirm compatibility and finish results. Store the sanding sponge in a dry environment to preserve the soft backing and abrasive performance.
