Power over Ethernet -reititin Mikrotik NetBox 5 ax

The Power over Ethernet Router Mikrotik NetBox 5 ax is an outdoor dual-chain device designed to operate as an access point (AP), customer-premises equipment (CPE) or point-to-point unit. It features a 5 GHz Wi‑Fi 6 radio with RP‑SMA connectors for external antennas, a Qualcomm Maple ARM CPU, 256 MB of RAM, a USB Type‑A port, and a Gigabit Ethernet port with PoE‑in. The weatherproof enclosure includes a one‑hand serviceable cover, protected Ethernet exits, a mounting loop for pole or tower installation, and a DIN‑rail mounting option.

Advantages

The NetBox 5 ax supports modern 5 GHz Wi‑Fi 6 operation and accepts external antennas via RP‑SMA connectors, allowing configuration as an omnidirectional AP or a long‑range point‑to‑point link depending on the antenna used. The device provides Gigabit Ethernet with PoE‑in for simplified outdoor deployment and a USB port for additional storage or accessory connectivity. Rugged, weatherproof construction, convenient mounting options and a user‑friendly case design reduce installation and maintenance effort. An onboard beeper is available for alarm signaling or simple outputs.

Suitable for

• Outdoor omnidirectional access point with external antenna
• Outdoor client/CPE connecting to a distant AP
• Long‑range point‑to‑point links (distance depends on antenna choice and conditions)
• Outdoor PoE deployments requiring a compact, pole‑mountable router

Key specifications

• Wireless: 5 GHz Wi‑Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax, compatible with a/ac/n)
• Antennas: RP‑SMA connector(s) for external antennas
• CPU and memory: Qualcomm Maple ARM CPU, 256 MB RAM
• Ports: Gigabit Ethernet (RJ‑45) with PoE‑in, USB Type‑A
• Power: Power over Ethernet (PoE‑in)
• Enclosure: Weatherproof outdoor case with pole/tower mounting loop and DIN‑rail option
• Other: Onboard beeper for alarms/outputs

How to use

Mount the NetBox 5 ax on a pole, tower or DIN rail using the supplied mounting loop or DIN accessory, and connect power via PoE‑in on the Gigabit Ethernet port. Attach an appropriate RP‑SMA external antenna for the intended role (omnidirectional for a local AP, directional high‑gain antenna for long‑range links). Use the USB Type‑A port for storage or compatible peripherals and configure the device with RouterOS to set the desired mode (AP, CPE, or point‑to‑point) and radio parameters.

Recommendations

For long‑range links, select a suitable high‑gain directional antenna and verify line of sight; link distances depend on antenna choice, environmental conditions and local regulations. Ensure PoE power source meets device requirements and protect connectors from prolonged moisture exposure during installation.
