Sarjaporttimuunnin toistin erotin W&T 81009

The W&T 81009 is a compact Serial Converter Repeater Isolator that transmits RS-232 data over plastic duplex fiber up to 80 meters. It derives power from the serial port, eliminating the need for an external power supply in most setups. The device provides electrical isolation to protect connected equipment from voltage spikes and electrical noise while maintaining signal integrity in industrial and other demanding environments.

Advantages

The model 81009 is non-radiating and insensitive to electrical noise, ensuring stable data transmission even in electrically noisy surroundings. Its small form factor and low weight (approx. 30 g) simplify installation and integration. By combining conversion, repetition and isolation functions, it reduces wiring complexity and enhances system safety without additional power wiring.

How to use

Connect the RS-232 serial cable from the host device to the 81009 input and attach the plastic duplex fiber to the corresponding fiber connectors. On the remote end, use a compatible fiber-to-RS232 module or another 81009 to restore serial connection. The unit typically powers itself from the serial port so no separate power connection is necessary; verify that the host port can supply sufficient power. Ensure correct wiring and connector orientation before applying signals.

Recommendations

Install the 81009 away from strong electromagnetic sources when possible, and verify port power capability during setup. For critical applications, test the link end-to-end and ensure compatible fiber and connector types are used.
