The Satechi Aluminum Pro Hub is a compact USB-C dock designed for 2016/2017 MacBook Pro 13" and 15" models. It provides a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C host connection and expands a MacBook Pro's connectivity with an HDMI port (4K), USB-C Power Delivery pass-through, a secondary Type-C data port, two USB 3.0 (Type-A) ports and an SD / MicroSD card reader. The hub is finished in grey and connects via the MacBook Pro's USB-C port to add video output, card access and additional USB ports.

Advantages

The adapter enables simultaneous use of pass-through charging and external accessories, preserving USB 3.0 ports and the SD/MicroSD reader while delivering high-resolution HDMI output. It supports high-speed data via the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C PD port and a separate Type-C data port for flexible device connections. The compact, low-profile design is intended to match the MacBook Pro form factor and provide plug-and-play convenience.

How to use

Connect the Pro Hub to one of the MacBook Pro's USB-C ports. For pass-through charging, connect your MacBook charger to the hub's primary USB-C (PD) port. Plug an HDMI cable from the hub to an external monitor for video output; ensure a direct HDMI-to-HDMI connection. Insert SD or MicroSD cards into the appropriate slots to access files, and connect USB-A or USB-C peripherals to the available ports for data transfer. The hub operates as plug-and-play with supported MacBook Pro models.

Recommendations

Use the primary USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port for power delivery and high-bandwidth devices (display or high-speed storage) and the secondary Type-C port for standard data peripherals. Do not expect USB-A ports to provide charging for certain tablets. For optimal video performance, use a direct HDMI cable between the hub and the external display.
