Kaukoputki Skywatcher Star Discovery MAK 102 Maksutov-Cassegrain 102 mm aukko, kannettava havaintolaite

Skywatcher Star Discovery MAK 102 is a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with a 102 mm aperture engineered for detailed observation of the Moon, planets and bright deep-sky objects. The compact optical tube delivers high contrast and sharp images at high magnifications while remaining portable and easy to transport. The instrument suits backyard observers, field astronomers and educational settings where compact size, reliable optics and simple setup are important.

Advantages

The Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design provides strong aberration correction, yielding crisp planetary views and well-defined lunar detail. A 102 mm objective balances light-gathering capability and portability, giving improved resolution over small refractors while keeping the instrument compact. The closed tube design reduces stray light and internal air currents, improving image stability during observation. The telescope is compatible with standard 1.25" eyepieces, enabling a range of magnifications for different targets.

How to use

Set the telescope on a stable tripod or mount and ensure basic collimation and alignment as required by the mount type. Insert a suitable 1.25" eyepiece and start with a low-power eyepiece to locate the target, then switch to higher magnification for planetary detail. Allow the telescope to reach ambient temperature for best image stability before high-magnification observing. Use a finder or red-dot sight to center objects in the main field of view. For focused viewing of the Moon and planets, make fine adjustments at the focuser and wait for atmospheric seeing to stabilise.

Recommendations

For best results with the Star Discovery MAK 102, observe when the target is high above the horizon to reduce atmospheric distortion, let the instrument acclimate to outdoor temperature for 20–40 minutes, and use medium- to high-power 1.25" eyepieces for planetary detail. When transporting, protect the optics with caps and a padded case, and avoid rapid temperature changes to maintain optical alignment.
