Why choose it

The DS423-42R bundle removes the guesswork from drive selection. WD Red Plus drives are engineered for 24/7 NAS operation, and Synology's DSM software provides automatic health monitoring, scheduled backups, and secure remote access. With two Gigabit ports, you can aggregate bandwidth for faster transfers or set up failover to keep services online during a network outage. The Btrfs file system adds snapshot protection against ransomware and accidental deletion.

Ideal use cases

• Centralized file storage and sharing for up to 25-50 users in a small business
• Automated backup target for Windows PCs, Macs, and servers
• Private cloud for remote access via Synology Drive and QuickConnect
• Surveillance station for IP camera recording (licenses required)
• Media server with hardware transcoding for smooth 4K streaming

Good to know

The enclosure supports up to 72TB raw capacity using four 18TB drives, so you can expand later by replacing individual drives with larger ones and letting SHR rebuild the array. The unit includes two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for external backups or UPS connectivity. DSM offers a wide range of packages for collaboration, virtualization, and multimedia. The DS423 is backed by Synology's 3-year limited warranty.
