tesa® 4600 is a self-welding silicone sealing tape that bonds to itself without adhesive, forming an immediate hermetic seal. The flexible silicone conforms tightly to different surfaces and is supplied here as a transparent roll 3 m long and 2.5 cm wide, suitable for use on metal and other materials. The silicone base gives the tape resistance to oils, acids, solvents, salt water, UV exposure and a wide temperature range from -65 °C to +260 °C. It can be applied both indoors and outdoors, including on wet, dirty or oily surfaces and can even be used under water. The tape can also serve for temporary bonds and is removable when needed, making it a versatile solution for tasks such as insulating cables or short-term repairs of water pipes.

Advantages

The transparent silicone construction provides a hermetic, non-adhesive weld to itself, delivering chemical and temperature resistance along with compatibility with challenging surfaces (oily, wet, dirty). Its flexibility allows tight conformation to irregular shapes and openings. The product is reusable for temporary joins and can be removed without leaving residue; it performs across a broad temperature range and withstands UV and salt water exposure.

Suitable for

• Insulating and bundling electrical cables
• Temporary sealing and emergency repairs of water pipes and hoses
• Sealing metal joints and fittings exposed to weather or salt water
• Use on oily, wet or dirty surfaces where conventional tapes fail

How to use

Clean the application area if possible; the tape also adheres to wet, oily or dirty surfaces but cleaning improves long-term performance. Cut or tear the required length, stretch the tape slightly while wrapping it around the object so that the silicone fuses to itself. Overlap each turn by 50% or more to ensure a hermetic seal. For pipe repairs or cable insulation, wrap tightly and finish by pressing the final end onto the previously applied layers to secure the weld. The tape can be applied underwater by stretching and pressing the layers together until they bond.

Recommendations

For long-term sealing on critical systems, prepare and dry surfaces where possible and inspect the repair periodically. Use as a temporary or emergency solution rather than a permanent fix for high-pressure or structural failures.
