HDD Western Digital 20 TB 3,5" Serial ATA III Ultrastar DC HC560

The Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC560 is a 3.5" Serial ATA III enterprise hard drive offering 20 TB of capacity, 7200 RPM performance and a 512 MB buffer. Designed for hyperscale cloud, CSPs, enterprise data centers and NAS environments, this HDD combines high areal density and flash-enhanced firmware to store very large datasets cost-effectively. OptiNAND technology integrates an iNAND UFS Embedded Flash Drive with traditional spinning media and enhanced firmware to enable increased tracks-per-inch and higher capacity in a nine-disk, CMR configuration.

Advantages

The Ultrastar DC HC560 delivers a leading 20 TB capacity in a nine-platter platform while maintaining enterprise-class reliability and compatibility with Serial ATA III systems. OptiNAND-enabled firmware reduces on-media metadata overhead by offloading expanded metadata to embedded flash, allowing higher areal density. The drive offers security options including SED models and is backed by a projected 2.5M hours MTBF and a 5-year limited warranty.

Suitable for

• Hyperscale cloud and large CSP storage pools
• Enterprise data centers and archive systems
• High-capacity NAS and video surveillance storage
• Cold and capacity-optimized storage tiers

How to use

Install the Ultrastar DC HC560 into a compatible 3.5" drive bay or chassis supporting SATA III connections. Use appropriate mounting hardware and follow server or NAS vendor instructions for hot-swap support or fixed mounting. Connect the SATA data and power cables, configure the drive in the host system’s storage controller or OS, and initialize/format the drive according to your storage architecture and filesystem requirements. For large arrays, follow recommended RAID or erasure-coding practices for capacity and data protection.

Recommendations

Use the Ultrastar DC HC560 in capacity-optimized tiers or bulk storage pools where high density and low cost per TB are priorities. Pair with enterprise-class controllers and cooling systems to maintain operating conditions, and apply vendor-recommended monitoring and firmware update practices. For sensitive data, choose the SED option and enable host-managed encryption features as required.
