O-III 6,5 nm 1,25 tuuman sumusuodatin Explore Scientificiltä

The Explore Scientific O-III 6.5nm 1.25" Nebula Filter isolates the doubly ionized oxygen emission lines (O‑III) to increase contrast and detail in planetary and emission nebulae. Engineered for 1.25" eyepieces, this narrowband filter has a 6.5nm full width at half maximum (FWHM) that suppresses broadband skyglow while transmitting the key O‑III wavelengths. It is suitable for both visual observing and imaging with telescopes where improved nebular contrast is required under a variety of sky conditions.

Advantages

The 6.5nm bandwidth provides selective transmission of O‑III emission while rejecting much of the background light pollution and moonlight, improving perceived contrast. Designed for 1.25" focusers and eyepieces, the filter is compact and easy to insert into standard visual paths. Its narrow spectral profile makes it effective for revealing faint O‑III structures in planetary nebulae and many emission nebulae, enhancing both visual detail and the signal-to-noise ratio in long-exposure and short-exposure astrophotography.

Suitable for

• Visual observation of planetary nebulae and emission nebulae
• Astrophotography targeting O‑III emission lines
• Use with 1.25" eyepieces, filter wheels, and visual adapters
• Observing from light-polluted suburban skies and darker sites

Key specifications

• Type: Narrowband O‑III nebula filter
• Effective bandwidth: 6.5 nm (FWHM)
• Size: 1.25" (standard visual filter diameter)
• Transmission: High at O‑III emission wavelengths, strong out-of-band rejection
• Application: Visual observing and astrophotography for O‑III emitting objects

How to use

Insert the filter into a 1.25" eyepiece barrel, visual back, or filter wheel tightened according to the accessory instructions. For visual use, allow a few minutes for your eye to adapt to the contrast changes introduced by the narrowband filter. For imaging, place the filter in the imaging train ahead of the camera sensor and verify focus, as narrowband filters can shift focus slightly; apply standard calibration frames and exposure settings appropriate for faint nebular emission. When switching between targets or between visual and imaging modes, handle the filter by the edges to avoid fingerprints on the optical surface.

Recommendations

Best results are obtained on targets with strong O‑III emission such as many planetary nebulae and portions of emission nebulae. In light-polluted areas the filter will increase contrast noticeably, while in very dark skies it helps reveal faint O‑III structures. Combine with a UHC or H‑alpha filter only in multi-filter imaging workflows where separate narrowband channels are captured; do not stack incompatible filters in the visual path.
