Optokytkin-portinohjain BROADCOM HCPL-3120-000E DIP-8 Push-Pull/Totem-Pole AC/DC

The BROADCOM HCPL-3120-000E is an optocoupler gate driver in a DIP-8 package that provides galvanic isolation between control logic and power transistor gates. Designed with a push-pull (totem-pole) output stage, it supports both AC and DC applications where isolated gate drive and fast switching are required. The device integrates an LED input and a transistor output with built-in drive capability, enabling reliable control of IGBTs, MOSFETs and other power switches while protecting sensitive control circuitry from high voltages and transients.

Advantages

The HCPL-3120-000E offers electrical isolation to reduce ground-loop issues and improve safety in power circuits. Its totem-pole output provides defined drive levels for faster turn-on and turn-off of power devices, reducing switching losses. Packaged in DIP-8, it is suitable for through-hole assembly and prototyping. The device improves noise immunity of the control side and helps protect microcontrollers and logic drivers from high-voltage spikes and common-mode disturbances.

Suitable for

• Isolated gate driving of IGBTs
• MOSFET gate drive in inverter and converter circuits
• Power supply and motor drive control
• Protection of control logic from high-voltage transients
• Through-hole prototyping and small-scale production boards

Key specifications

• Package type: DIP-8 through-hole
• Output stage: push-pull (totem-pole) driver
• Isolation: optical galvanic isolation between input and output
• Suitable for AC and DC gate drive applications
• Intended for driving power transistors such as IGBTs and MOSFETs
• Input: LED-driven input circuit compatible with logic-level signals

How to use

Connect the LED input to the control logic through an appropriate current-limiting resistor, observing correct polarity. Mount the DIP-8 package on the PCB or a suitable socket to ensure secure through-hole connection. Provide separate supply and reference connections for the output side as required by the application, and maintain appropriate isolation creepage and clearance distances according to system voltage. Use the push-pull outputs to drive the gate of the target power transistor, taking care to size gate resistors and snubber elements as needed for desired switching speed and to limit overshoot.
