The Sony SEL24240 is a versatile 24–240mm zoom lens for Sony E-mount cameras, offering a focal range that covers wide-angle to telephoto shooting in a single compact unit. With a variable aperture of f/3.5–6.3, a 7-blade circular diaphragm and a 17-element/12-group optical design, the lens delivers clear, sharp images while keeping size and weight suitable for travel and everyday use.

Advantages

The lens provides a 10x zoom range from 24 mm to 240 mm, enabling dynamic wide-angle perspectives as well as long-reach telephoto shots without changing lenses. Built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization helps reduce blur during handheld shooting. A circular 7-blade aperture contributes to smooth defocus and pleasing background rendering. The dust- and moisture-resistant construction increases reliability in variable conditions.

Suitable for

Travel photography and sightseeing
Everyday and walkaround shooting
Portraits with background separation
Event and street photography

Key specifications

Focal length: 24–240 mm
Aperture: f/3.5–6.3 (minimum aperture value per manufacturer data)
Optical construction: 17 elements in 12 groups
Diaphragm blades: 7 (circular)
Image stabilization: Optical SteadyShot (OSS)
Closest focusing distance: 0.5 m
Weight: 0.78 kg
Mount: Sony E
Color: Black

How to use

Attach the lens to a compatible Sony E-mount camera and ensure the mount clicks into place. Use the zoom ring to set focal length between 24 mm and 240 mm as needed; adjust aperture and shutter speed on the camera or in aperture-priority/manual modes to achieve correct exposure. Enable OSS in the camera menu if handheld stabilization is required. For close-up subjects keep at or beyond the specified closest focusing distance of 0.5 m.

Recommendations

For travel and general-purpose use, carry the lens on the camera body to minimize gear and maximize flexibility. Use wider focal lengths (24–35 mm) for landscapes and interiors, medium focal lengths (50–135 mm) for portraits, and longer focal lengths (135–240 mm) for distant subjects. Protect the lens from heavy rain despite dust- and moisture-resistant design and use a lens hood or UV filter to reduce flare and protect the front element.

6/10

Loppuarvio: As with all travel-zoom lenses, the Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS is a compromise. The complex optical design means that images are soft at the edges, but the centre sharpness goes some way to make up for this. In fact, the centre is staggeringly sharp w...
